those responsibilities in order to focus on investing. What they really need<br />
to focus on is alpha, making money, said Jeff Glick, who runs Start U Up, a<br />
Darien, Conn., firm that provides outsourced chief financial officer and chief<br />
operating officer services to fund operators. They should be staring at the<br />

<p>There&#8217;s a short, satirical letter from imaginary hedge fund Zilch Capital in the most recent issue of <a href="http://www.economist.com/node/21547809">The Economist</a>.</p>
<p>And if you&#8217;re a real hedge funder, you may want to avert your eyes.</p>
<p>Why? Here&#8217;s a short excerpt:</p>
<p>Like our peers we have also started talking a lot about how we are &ldquo;multi-strategy&rdquo; and &ldquo;capital-structure agnostic&rdquo;, and boasting about the benefits of our &ldquo;unconstrained&rdquo; investment approach. <strong>This is better than saying we don&rsquo;t really understand what&rsquo;s going on.</strong></p>
<p>The purpose of the letter (said the letter) was to explain why Zilch was &#8220;making some changes to the language we use in our marketing and communications.&#8221;</p>
<p>Instead of promising absolute returns: &#8220;we&rsquo;re going to give you &ldquo;risk-adjusted&rdquo; returns or, failing that, &ldquo;relative&rdquo; returns&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>Instead of delivering alpha: &#8220;we have decided that we&rsquo;re actually much better at giving you &ldquo;smart beta&rdquo;. This term is already being touted at industry conferences and we hope shortly to be able to explain what it means.&#8221;</p>
<p>Of course, the 2% management fee and 20% performance fee rule, The Economist pointed out, will remain unchanged.</p>
<p>Clearly, The Economist doesn&#8217;t think the industry is delivering.</p>
<p>That said, I expect somewhere a hedge funder is writing an angry letter that begins with, &#8220;Dear Sir,&#8221;&#8230;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Since 2007 Australians have been allowed, through their SMSF, to borrow monies to purchase properties such as residential, commercial, retail, rural and holiday apartments. This article provides a brief overview of the pros and cons of purchasing property through your SMSF and how Royale Capital assists our Private Wealth members in doing so.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A Brief History of SMSF Property Investment</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On September 24, 2007 Treasurer Wayne Swan made amendments to the superannuation Industry Act which gave Self Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs) the ability to borrow money that could be used for the purchase of an asset &#8211; in this case for the purchase of property. This borrowing is undertaken through what is known as an Installment Warrant.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Further, in 2008 Treasurer Wayne Swan MP along with Minister for Housing Tanya Plibersek MP launched the National Rental Affordability Scheme or NRAS. </p>
<p>The NRAS was established to increase the supply of affordable rental properties in Australia and to reduce market rental costs to low &#38; middle income earners and encourage private investment in these types of properties.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are many specifics that make investing in property through your SMSF an attractive proposition however there are also some potential pitfalls that need to be noted.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Before You Purchase Property Through Your SMSF</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are five essential requirements that must be met before you can purchase property through your SMSF.</p>
<p>The borrowed funds must be applied towards a single acquirable asset.<br />
The asset must be one that a SMSF would normally be allowed to acquire under the applicable legislation.<br />
The acquired asset must be held on trust for the SMSF.<br />
The SMSF must have a right to obtain legal ownership of the asset by making one or more installment payments.<br />
The rights of the lender or any other party involved in the arrangement must be limited to the rights relating to the acquired asset.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If all five requirements are not fully complied with, this could result in the SMSF being disqualified as a regulated super fund which could result in the SMSF becoming liable for tax at the highest margin!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">However, once you have confirmed that all requirements are met, the purchase of real estate through an SMSF takes place in the same way as any real estate purchase: the investor selects the property and their SMSF satisfies the loan requirements as specified by the super-leveraged loan provider.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The SMSF pays the deposit, the balance of the purchase price, any associated legal costs and stamp duty and all costs associated with the property as well.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">SMSF Purchased Property – The Benefits</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In return the SMSF receives all proceeds of rent or other income associated with the property. </p>
<p>If you hold the property until after you retire and your super goes into the pension phase, you pay no tax on either the capital gains if you sell or the rent if you continue to hold your investment. Before retirement, capital gains and rent earned by your SMSF are taxed at only 15 per cent (if you hold the property for more than a year, this drops to 10 per cent on capital gains). Another benefit of investing in property is that is provides another level of diversification in your portfolio.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">SMSF Purchased Property – The Cons</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As with any investment, there are also some possible disadvantages to investing in real estate through your SMSF. For instance, if you borrow to buy property through your super and you’re negatively geared, the tax offset only applies to other income earned within the fund – not your regular income. Also you cannot live in the property and neither can any of your friends or family members. You can’t renovate a property purchased through a SMSF while it is still under a loan.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Buying property through a SMSF is generally only suitable for funds with 0,000 in combined funds.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Bear in mind that this article provides only a very basic overview of how one can use their SMSF to purchase property. Running a SMSF is complicated and penalties for getting things wrong are high. It is extremely important that you consult with and be guided by professionals who specialize in this area.</p>

In this article, three indicators will be outlined that are utilized by successful traders to provide emini trading signals for market entry and exit.</p>
<p><b>Pivot Points</b></p>
<p>Pivot points are a common tool used by many emini index traders. Some traders use pivot points exclusively relying on pivot points in conjunction with only a time and sales screen, forgoing the use of charting software. While others will employ pivot points incorporating them in with their trading platforms to alert them when conditions are favorable for trade exit and entry. Because pivot points show areas of both strong and weak support and resistance, they are a popular choice among successful emini traders.</p>
<p><b>Relative Strength Indicator</b></p>
<p>The Relative Strength Indicator or RSI is a graph which usually resides on the lower part of charting software. </p>
<p>Used mostly to determine both oversold and overbought conditions, this widely used indicator displays a reading between zero and one hundred with a line moving between these two numbers. As the line moves up toward the 100 mark, the RSI indicates the market could be moving into overbought territory and the possibility exist that a pull back or market reversal could be at hand. When the line approaches the zero level, indications are favorable that oversold conditions exist and the market could be about to change to the upside as short sellers begin to take profits.</p>
<p><b>Stochastic</b></p>
<p>The Stochastic is another indicator similar to the RSI which is a popular choice among emini trading futures market players. </p>
<p>It is also a graph that usually resides in the lower section of charting software. Like the Relative Strength Indicator, both lagging indicators, the Stochastic also has a range of between zero and one hundred. With this tool, conditions are generally believed to be approaching overbought conditions when the Stochastic line crosses 70. In contrast, oversold conditions are said to exist when the Stochastic breaks below 30 and sellers begin to cover short positions.</p>
